Volunteering Pays Off

Volunteering Pays Off – by Lou Parris

There are, of course, many ways to help Siberian Huskies and Husky Haven. I foster dogs, but that’s not for everyone.    I also take dogs to Sea Dog Inn, take dogs for veterinary work, transport adopted dogs to meet their out-of-town owners, pick up dogs at shelters, etc. I am retired, so I have the luxury of having time during the day to do this.

As a former Exxon employee, I can take advantage the ExxonMobil VIP (Volunteer Involvement Program) Through this program, Exxon pays a 501c3 corporation $500 for each twenty hours I volunteer – up to $2000 per year. So far this year I have received two grants of $500 each and have applied for a third.

This program applies to all eligible participants, and an organization, say Husky Haven, can receive $5000 each year from this program. It is very easy to apply for a grant  – it can be done online. For further details about the program you can go to https://www.easymatch.com/exxonmobil

You might think that a big corporation like Exxon would not pay to a small organization like Husky Haven. That’s not so!    There is an approval process, but after that was done, Husky Haven became a completely eligible organization.

I am very grateful to the ExxonMobil for providing this support. I want to encourage any volunteer to investigate the possibility of his/her employer or former employer’s contributing to Husky Haven based on volunteer work.
